Muna Nepal

Our local partner

Muna Nepal is a non-governmental organisation established with our local team.

The project provides an early intervention programme primarily for young children (0–5 years old) with cerebral palsy (CP), neurological disorders, developmental delays or other special needs.

The first years of life are crucial. Early intervention, combined with support for parents, enables children to develop their abilities, independence and quality of life to the fullest.

Objectives

  • Support the development and independence of young children with additional needs.
  • Give parents and family members the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to support their child in everyday life.
  • Improve the long-term quality of life for the whole family.

Our approach

At Muna Nepal, parents are true partners in the programme. Children generally attend intensive residential stays of around three weeks, usually accompanied by their mother.

During their stay, they benefit from multidisciplinary support including:

  • paediatric medical care;
  • physiotherapy;
  • occupational therapy;
  • speech and language therapy;
  • sensory and feeding therapy;
  • an individualised educational programme;
  • assistive devices and specialised equipment when needed.

All activities are designed to be playful, allowing children to make progress through play in a caring and stimulating environment.

Mothers actively participate in all sessions. They learn how to continue the exercises at home and also receive psychological support, take part in support groups and attend various training sessions (stress management, nutrition, meditation, baby massage for well-being, etc.).

After the residential stay, families continue to receive support by phone, video call or through follow-up camps organised in different regions of Nepal. This continuity is essential to consolidate the progress made and support families over the long term.
